Bear Creek Lake Park
This park has numerous trails and loops.  Some are rolling "roller coaster" trails and others have nice uphill sections.  The climb up Mt Carbon is a good test for novices and their cardio conditioning.  Start at the Conoco station outside the park and take the paved path into the park.  Here's the link to the map:   http://www.ci.lakewood.co.us/CR/Regional/BCLP/bclpImages/areaMapTrails.jpg

Lair 'o the Bear Trail This park adjoins several other Jeffco parks and the Bear Creek Trail rises from this park, going to Pence Park.  The bottom section contains a gentle grade with several stream crossings.  After turning onto the Bear Creek Trail it rises quickly and steadily.  The upper section is rated as moderate to difficult.  Several technical areas exist on the single track.  Here's the link to the park map:  http://www.co.jefferson.co.us/jeffco/openspace_uploads/lairmap.pdf

South Valley Trail

This is an easy to moderate trail system with rolling hills and primarily single track riding.  There are very few technical chalenges.  It's located on South Valley Road, off KenCaryl Road in the KenCaryl Valley.  You can also access the Deer Creek Trail from the southern boundary.
